As much pride as college football fans have for their favorite teams, the hatred can be just as deep toward rivals and those who have done their school wrong.
There are specifically three college football coaches that fans of the Oklahoma Sooners especially hate, and for good reason. Let's hash out that hatred and also have some fun roasting each.
Lincoln Riley, USC
It was obvious who would top this list, because Lincoln Riley is the most hated man in Norman.
After five seasons as OU's head coach, Riley peed down his khakis at the thought of the looming SEC, so he bolted for a dying conference with defenses just as frail as his. But even with a Heisman quarterback and No. 1 overall NFL Draft pick in Caleb Williams, Riley still hasn't managed to win anything other than what Bob Stoops held his hand through at Oklahoma.
The only thing that could had left a worse taste in Sooner fans' mouths would be a bite of Riley's brisket.
Steve Sarkisian, Texas
Any coach on the other sideline wearing a Longhorn logo will be hated by OU fans, but Steve Sarkisian makes it especially easy. To be honest, I don't think Mack Brown was ever actually despised by Sooner Nation. At some point, everyone just started feeling sorry for the guy and thought maybe Bob Stoops should give him a tip or two.
Sarkisian, though, was handed talent like a trust fund kid and finally got the Longhorns "back" to somewhere they'd never actually been to return to after the SEC's welcoming gift for Texas was the easiest schedule in the conference. Yet, even with all those resources and during the Sooners' worst era in decades, Sark can still only beat OU half the time.
Mike Gundy, Oklahoma State
Mike Gundy barely made this list and could soon be replaced since the Bedlam rivalry is dead on the football field and Gundy was never really a threat anyway.
Gundy did a leave a sour taste in Sooner Nation's mouth, though, after winning the presumed final Bedlam in 2023 before the Sooners left for the SEC to let little brother finally spread its wings and thrive, only for the Cowboys to go winless in the Big 12 and let a Pac-12 misfit take OU's place.
Despite getting the last laugh, Gundy was still 4-15 in Bedlam and won only one Big 12 title while sharing a conference with OU. The Sooners won 11 during those 19 seasons.
Gundy's best chance at winning anything in this state is maybe running for governor during retirement.
