According to a report by On3.com’s Sooner Scoop website, the Oklahoma football head coach Brent Venables will go with a co-offensive coordinators to replace Jeff Lebby.

Lebby was recently named the new head coach at Mississippi State. Venables didn’t have to look far to find Lebby’s replacement. Current OU offensive analyst Seth Littrell and tight ends coach Joe Jon Finley reportedly will share responsibility for the Big 12’s best offense.

Both Littrell and Finley are former OU players and on staff presently, which will provide familiarity and continuity and assure a relatively seamless transition.

Following the announcement of Lebby’s departure, Littrell became an early favorite to land the job as his replacement. Before joining Venables’ support staff this past season, Littrell was head coach at North Texas (2016-22) and before that served as offensive coordinator at Arizona, Indiana and North Carolina. He was a running back at Oklahoma from 1997-2000 and was part of the Sooners’ 2000 national championship team.

Finley played the tight end position for the Sooners from 2004-07. He was a graduate assistant at OU upon graduation, and after that he became an assistant at Missouri, followed by Ole Miss and Texas A&M before returning to the Oklahoma staff. It was reported that Lebby tried to get Finley to join him at Mississippi State, but he elected to remain as part of Venables’ staff at OU.

The current offensive assistants will remain in place, but support staff members Phil Loadholt, Brenton Duby, Tanner Schafer and Matt Holecek are expected to follow Lebby to Mississippi State.

It is reasonable to assume that Littrell and Finely will handle the offensive plan play calling for Oklahoma’s upcoming bowl game.
