The Oklahoma football record against West Virginia is mostly one-sided with the Sooners winning 11 of the 14 total games and nine of 10 in the Big 12 era. Three of the last four meetings between the two teams, however, have been decided by three points, including each of the last two.

West Virginia is a dangerous team and playing with a chip on its shoulder all season after being picked to finish last in the 2023 Big 12 Preseason Media Poll (the Sooners were picked third in that same poll). The Mountaineers come to Oklahoma on Saturday tied with OU and three other teams for third place all with identical 4-2 conference records.

The path to get to the present, though, has been different for both the Sooners and West Virginia. While the Mountaineers have won their last two games, OU has suffered back-to-back road losses, creating a major log jam one game behind Big 12 front runners Texas and Oklahoma State.

West Virginia head coach Neal Brown said earlier this week that his team is not coming to Norman just to play a football game. The Mountaineers are coming with the confidence and plan of winning the game.

Most teams come to play at Oklahoma with the idea of winning. Problem is, very few (13, actually, in the last 25 seasons) have managed to pull that off.

How to watch

Sooner fans and players will have to wait until 6 p.m. Saturday night to see Oklahoma play its third night game of the season. The game will be televised nationally on FOX with Jeff Levering doing play-by-play and former Oregon head coach Mark Helfrich providing analysis. The game can also be streamed on FuboTV.

Weather conditions

Mostly clear skies are forecast with temperature around 58 degrees at kickoff. The temp could be close to 50 by game’s end.

Betting information

The Sooners are an 11-point favorite in the game, according to Betsided.com, part of the FanSided network. The over/under is 59.

Prediction

The Sooners are back home at the Palace on the Prairie for just the second time in over a month. It’s also been two weeks since the last Oklahoma win. When you factor that the Sooners have lost just 13 times in 151 games at home since the start of the 1999 season and that West Virginia has won just once at Owen Field in eight visits, the setting appears perfect for an OU statement win. Sooners win big: Oklahoma 48, West Virginia 24.
