As expected with Kansas handing the previously unbeaten Oklahoma football team its first loss of the season on Saturday, the Sooners took a tumble in the Week 10 national rankings, but it was a much softer landing than many may have expected.

The Sooners, now at 7-1, dropped just four spots to No. 10 in the Associated Press Top 25 and are now at No. 11 in the Coaches Poll.

Georgia, Michigan, Ohio State, Florida State and Washington, all sitting at 8-0 and with 8-0 James Madison the only unbeaten college football teams remaining in 2023, remain one through five in both national polls this week.

On Tuesday, the first College Football Rankings of 2023 are released. Oklahoma’s win over now No. 6 (AP) and No. 7 Texas (Coaches Poll) apparently helped soften the Sooners’ free fall in the weekly polls plus losing by just five points on the road at Kansas.

Kansas returned to the top 25 with the win over Oklahoma. The Jayhawks are No. 22 this week in the AP poll and No. 23 in the Coaches Poll. Kansas State, a 41-0 winner over BYU over the weekend, also returned to the top 25 for the first time since Week 3. The Wildcats occupy the No. 25 spot in the AP Top 25.

Oklahoma State, which has won its last four games, including home wins over both Kansas and Kansas State and a 45-13 blowout of Cincinnati on Saturday, was the first team left out of this week’s AP rankings and the second team left out of the Coaches Poll behind K-State. Oklahoma and Oklahoma State square off this coming weekend in Stillwater.
