Oklahoma football: Sooners add 4-star Kansas linebacker to 2024 class
By Chip Rouse
Oklahoma football recruiting added its 26 commitment for the 2024 class with the announcement on Thursday by four-star linebacker Michael Boganowski that he will be playing his college football at OU.
Boganowski, who is from Junction City, Kansas, is ranked as the No. 1 player in the state of Kansas and the No. 39 linebacker in the 2024 class nationally.
For a time, it appeared that Kansas State, which is only about 20 miles from the K-State campus, would have the inside track to acquire the elite defensive player, but Oklahoma won out in the end over K-State and Florida State. Boganowski had more than 15 scholarship offers in total, including Kansas, USC, Tennessee and Washington, but he cut the list to four — OU, Kansas State, Florida State and KU — in early October.
Boganowski appears to be a candidate for the “Cheetah” position in Brent Venables’ defense. He is the 10th defensive player and second linebacker commit in OU’s 2024 class. He joinsJames Nesta, another four-star prospect at the linebacker position from North Carolina, who committed to the Sooners’ 2024 class in June.
As a junior at Junction City High School last season, Boganowski finished with 122 total tackles, 67 of which were unassisted tackles, three tackles for loss, four interceptions and a forced fumble.
Boganowski made several recruiting visits to Norman over the summer, including attendance at Oklahoma’s big “Party at the Palace recruiting event in late July. That latter visit may have been the one that closed the sale.
Oklahoma ranks 5th in the updated 2024 recruiting class rankings by Rivals and is currently 6th in the 247Sports 2024 class rankings.
