Oklahoma basketball: Sooners’ Big 12 schedule announced for 2023-24 season
By Chip Rouse
The conference portion of the 2023-24 schedule, which marks the final season of men’s Oklahoma basketball as a member of the Big 12, is now set.
The Sooners will play an unbalanced 18-game schedule with nine conference games to be played at Lloyd Noble Center. In past 11 seasons, Big 12 teams have played a round-robin schedule in which every team has a home and away series every season with every other conference team.
The Big 12 schedule this season for OU includes a home-and-away series with five teams: newcomer Cincinnati, Iowa State, Kansas, Oklahoma State and Texas. The Sooners have home games only scheduled with newcomers BYU and Houston (coached by former OU head coach Kelvin Sampson) along with West Virginia and Texas Tech. OU will go on the road for single games only against Baylor, UCF, Kansas State and TCU.
The Oklahoma men will open its final Big 12 conference season at home against Iowa State on Saturday, Jan. 6. That will be followed by consecutive road games at TCU and Kansas before returning home to the LNC to host West Virginia. The Sooners close out the month of January at Texas, Texas Tech at home and at Kansas State.
OU travels to central Florida on Feb. 3 to take on UCF for its only game of the season against the Knights. It’s back home for back-to-back home games on Feb. 6 and 10 against BYU and Oklahoma State in what could be the final home game in the Bedlam series for the Sooners.
Oklahoma is at Baylor on Feb. 13 for a mid-week game and hosts Kansas on Feb. 17. The Sooners don’t return to action until the following weekend at Oklahoma State on Feb. 24 and close out the month of February at Iowa State on Feb. 28,
Oklahoma finishes the regular season with three games in early March, hosting Houston on Saturday, March 3, which will include Kelvin Sampson’s return to the LNC for the first time since he resigned as OU head coach in 2006 after a dozen seasons to fill the coaching vacancy Indiana. The following week, the Sooners host Cincinnati and finish the conference season on the road at Texas on Saturday, March 9.
All 18 Oklahoma conference games will be carried on the ESPN family of networks, including 11 games on ESPN+.
The Sooners will open the 2023-24 season on Nov. 6 at home against Central Michigan.
