Oklahoma football recruiting picked up another elite defensive line target with a commitment from highly regarded 2024 in-state prospect Danny Okoye from Tulsa.

The highly recruited defensive end had as many as 30 scholarship offers, and in the end chose the home-state Sooners over Texas and future SEC foes Tennessee and Alabama.

Okoye becomes the 24th commitment in the Sooners’ 2024 class and the 10th defensive player. Five of the defensive commitments are elite defensive lineman. including five-star David Stone, Nigel Smith II and Wyatt Gilmore.

The Sooners also added four defensive linemen in the 2023 class, including five-star edge rusher P.J. Adebawore, along with four experienced D-lineman through the transfer portal, all part of Venables’ emphasis on strengthening the defensive front ahead of OU’s movement to the SEC next season.

Oklahoma is still awaiting 2024 commitment decisions from four-star offensive lineman Grant Brix, four-star cornerback Devon Jordan, four-star linebacker Michael Boganowski and three-star offensive lineman Daniel Akinkunmi.

The Sooners are now at No. 5 in the Rivals 2024 class rankings and No. 7 in the 247Sports class rankings. More importantly, they are ahead of Texas in the Big 12 recruiting rankings.
