In a prelude to the headline announcement everyone is anticipating on Saturday, the Oklahoma football program added two more commitments to its 2024 class on Thursday.

Early in the day on Thursday, three-star QB Andy Bass out of Heritage High School in Oklahoma City committed to the Sooners, and that same afternoon Oklahoma added the commitment of defensive back Eli Bowen, the younger brother of five-star freshman Peyton Bowen, who was a highly touted safety in the top five-ranked 2023 Sooner class.

During halftime, five-star defensive lineman David Stone, the No. 10 overall player in the 2024 class nationally and the No. 3 player at his position, will announce his commitment, picking between Oklahoma, Miami and Michigan State. Stone would be the jewel in the OU 2024 class, which has been steadily rising in the rankings this summer.

Bass, the 11th-ranked player in the state of Oklahoma according to 247Sports, will likely be converted to running back or wide receiver at Oklahoma because of his sprinter speed. He is a state champion in the 100-meter dash. Bass will be a preferred walk-on at OU. He chose the Sooners over offers from Kansas State and Syracuse.

Bowen is a four-star safety prospect, according to Rivals, who plays his high school ball at Guyer High School in Denton, Texas, the same school that produced both brother Peyton and five-star OU quarterback Jackson Arnold in the 2023 Oklahoma class.

Bowen held more than 20 offers from such major programs as Texas A&M, Arkansas, Baylor, Oregon and others but narrowed the list down to just two schools this summer: OU and Texas. He is rated as a top-50 defensive back in the 2024 class by both 247Sports and Rivals.

When Peyton signed with the Sooners in the 2023 class, it was almost a given that his younger brother would commit to OU in this class. But apparently the final decision between Oklahoma and Texas was a lot closer than many people expected.

The younger Bowen joins four-star cornerback Jeremiah Newcombe and four-star safeties Mykel Patterson-McDonald and Jaydan Hardy as defensive backs in the Sooners’ 2024 class.
