The Oklahoma football program added its second 2024 commitment in as many days with the addition of four-star edge defender Wyatt Gilmore out of the state of Minnesota.

The 6-foot, 4-inch, 240-pound defensive player had been projected as going to the Sooners, and on Wednesday he made it official via a Twitter announcement. Gilmore is the No. 2-rated recruit in the state of Minnesota and is a top-20 edge prospect in the 2024 class nationally.

Gilmore, who was in attendance at OU’s recent ChampU BBQ recruiting event, is one of several elite defensive-line prospects that Oklahoma is targeting in this recruiting cycle, The Sooners are hoping the addition of Gilmore will help seal the deal with five-star D-linemen David Stone and Williams Nwaneri, both of whom are being heavily pursued by the Sooners and are projected at this time as leaning to Oklahoma.

This is a big pickup for Brent Venables and the OU coaching staff, plucking a top-rated prospect out of traditional Big Ten country. Defensive ends coach Miguel Chavis was the lead recruiter in bringing in Gilmore’s pledge to the Sooners.

Gilmore chose the Sooners over offers from Miami (Florida), Minnesota, Oregon and Kansas State.

The addition of RB Xavier Robinson and Gilmore this week gives Oklahoma 10 commitments in its 2024 recruiting class with more expected in the next 30 days. It moves the Sooners up to No. 35 in the team recruiting class rankings for this cycle. That may not seem like much to shout about, but it is a meaningful advance considering OU was in the lower 50s in the rankings just a little over a week ago.
