The times and broadcast assignments for four Oklahoma football games in the 2023 schedule have been announced.
The Sooners will open the season at home at Gaylord Family-Oklahoma Memorial Stadium on Sept. 9. That game will kick off at 11 a.m. and be carried on ESPN. This will be the third meeting all-time between these two teams. Oklahoma won both of the previous games, 61-0 in 1992 and 45-7 in the 2000 national championship season.
SMU comes to Norman for Week 2 of the 2023 season for a game that is scheduled for a 5 p.m. start. The contest will not be broadcast on network TV but will be available on ESPN+. The Mustangs and Sooners have played each other seven times previously. OU is 5-1-1 in those matchups and 3-0-1 at home. The two teams have not played since 1995, with Oklahoma winning 24-10.
The Sooners will leave the friendly confines of Owen Field in the third weekend of the season and travel across the state to square off with the Tulsa Golden Hurricane. The game time is set forjoin 2:30 p.m. and will be televised on either ESPN or ESPN2. OU is 20-7-1 all-time against Tulsa and is 7-2 when playing the Hurricane on the road. The last time they played was in 2015 with the Sooners winning 52-38 in Norman. Another storyline with the 2023 matchup is the Tulsa head coach. Former Oklahoma offensive coordinator Kevin Wilson is the new head coach at Tulsa.
OU’s annual Red River Showdown with Texas has a network assignment (ABC this year) but a kickoff time has not been determined.
The other Oklahoma 2023 game for which a start time has been determined is OU’s day after Thanksgiving matchup with TCU. That game will be played at Oklahoma this season and is set for an 11 a.m. kick on FOX. It will be the final time these two teams play as members of the Big 12 with Oklahoma joining the SEC beginning in the 2024 season.
