Former Colarado punter Ashton Logan has committed to the Oklahoma football program.

Logan announced his commitment to the Sooners via Twitter on Friday. The 6-foot, 2-inch, 210-pound former Buffalo will have four years of eligibility remaining. He adds depth to a position that is look for a replacement for Michael Turk, who completed his eligibility last season and signed with the Miami Dolphins of the NFL this spring as an undrafted free agent.

Turk led the Big 12 last season, averaging 46 yards per punt.

Logan punted 17 times last season as a freshman at Colorado and average 41 yards per punt. He joins an Oklahoma transfer class for 2023 that ranked seventh in the 247Sport transfer class rankings. Only Colorado, Auburn, LSU, USC, Florida State and Ole Miss rank higher among 2023 transfers.

He will have some competition for the lead punter role for the Sooners in 2023. Logan will face competition from redshirt-senior Luke Elzinga, freshman Brady Braun and former Arizona State transfer Josh Plaster. Elzinga transferred from Central Michigan after earning All-MAC honors the past three seasons. In 52 punts last season, he averaged 42.2 yards per punt.

“Boomer,” Logan wrote in his Twitter message. “Proud to be part of the Sooner Nation. Thank you (Coach Brent Venables and special teams coach Jay Nunez).

Braun was the No. 4 punter in the 2022 recruiting class, according to Kohl’s Kicking. Plaster was a backup punter to Turk at Arizona State when he transferred to Oklahoma in April of 2021.

Logan was rated the No. 9 punter in the 2021 recruiting class and was rated a five-star prospect by 247Sports.
