Oklahoma baseball pitcher Braden Carmichael is the Big 12 Pitcher of the Week in the final week for the 2023 weekly conference awards for baseball.

The fifth-year senior Sooner starter is having the best season of his career with a 7-0 record and a 3.25 ERA in 69.1 innings pitched. Carmichael has his best outing of the season this past weekend in a complete game 5-0 shutout victory over the Oklahoma State Cowboys.

The shutout over the Cowboys was the first complete game of his Oklahoma career and the first by a Sooner pitcher since March of 2020. Carmichael faced just four batters over the 27 minimum. He struck out five, allowed just four hits to the potent Oklahoma State offense and did not walk a batter. He threw just 96 pitches in going the full nine innings.

This is Carmichael’s first Big 12 weekly honor as an Oklahoma Sooners and the fourth bestowed upon a Sooner player this season. Braden’s younger brother, Easton, a freshman catcher for OU, was named Big 12 Newcomer of the Week on March 13, Sooner shortstop Dakota Harris was the Co-Newcomer of the Week the week after Easton, and Carter Campbell was the Big 12 Pitcher of the Week on April 24.

The other Big 12 honorees this week along with Carmichael are Dylan Campbell of Texas, Player of the Week, and Nolen Hester of Texas Tech, Newcomer of the Week.

Oklahoma finished the regular season with a 30-24 record and 11-13 in the Big 12. The Sooners are the No. 7 seed in this week’s Big 12 Tournament and will play No. 2 Oklahoma State on Wednesday at 4 p.m. at Globe Life Park in Arlington, Texas.
