Dimetime – 8

The Oklahoma football program’s culture is established and mandated by Head Coach Brent Venables. Coach Venables believes in developing a foundation of consistency and “buy-in” to the process. Since the culture is created by the fiery Venables, it is spread throughout the program by the leaders on the team. Dillon Gabriel is one of those key leaders.

With the arrival of 5-star freshman quarterback Jackson Arnold in January, there has been some potential buzz surrounding the quarterback position. Anytime a new, highly-rated quarterback comes to campus, the fanbase wants to see them on the field as quickly as possible. I wanted to write an article of support per-se, for Dillon Gabriel. An article that stresses the importance of his success this year and the five reasons it (his improvement) will happen.

Gabriel has been a consistent quarterback during his college career which has mostly been good but admittedly has also been bad. We know he was inconsistent on first downs in 2022. We also know he overthrew open receivers a little too much. There are different circumstances surrounding Dillon Gabriel’s role this season however.

Sooner Nation is also a spoiled fanbase when it comes to quarterbacks. Dillon Gabriel isn’t Kyler, Baker, or Jalen, but he doesn’t need to be that caliber of quarterback to be successful in 2023.

So, let’s take a look at the top-5 reasons Dillon Gabriel will be named an All Big-12 quarterback in 2023.
