Oklahoma football: FOX’s Joel Klatt includes Sooners in post-spring top 25
By Chip Rouse
FOX Sports college football analyst Joel Klatt has joined the party, coming out this week with his post-spring top 25 for the coming season. Five teams from the Big 12 made the cut, including the 2023 edition of Oklahoma football.
There are no major surprises at the top of his top 25 projections for the 2023 college football season with Georgia, Michigan, Ohio State and Alabama heading the list. No. 5 Penn State, USC, LSU, Florida State, Washington and Tennessee rounded out Klatt’s top 10.
The only change in Klatt’s post-spring version of the top 25 from his way-too-early top-10 projections back in January of this year was USC jumping over LSU from No. 8 into the No. 6 spot and Washington and Tennessee trading places at No. 9 and 10.
Klatt had Oregon, Oklahoma, Notre Dame, TCU and Clemson in the category of “just missing out” of the top 10 in his way-too-early college football rankings earlier this year.
The Sooners appear to have slipped a bit in Klatt’s post-spring top-25 projection. Oklahoma occupies the No. 19 spot in his revised and expanded top 25 for the 2023 season. The Sooners are preceded by No. 17 Texas and No. 18 Kansas State, with Texas Tech ranked No. 24.
This is what Klatt had to say about Oklahoma in his analysis of the Sooners:
"“I thought of moving them up a bit higher because I like a lot of the pieces Oklahoma has…“They got way better in the transfer porta, specifically on the defensive side of the balll. (And) they were fourth in the country in high-school recruiting, including a five-star safety and four players in the top 16 in the country…“OU could have a big splash season.”"
Klatt also said about Oklahoma on The Joel Klatt Show podcast this week that “if there were a team in the 10-20 range you had to bet on entering the top 10 by the end of the year, it’d be Oklahoma.”
