Oklahoma softball: Sooners down Oklahoma State 5-1 for Bedlam series sweep

Sooner pitching again ruled the day as super senior Alex Storako held the Oklahoma State offense to just one run on six hits and finished off a complete-game 5-1 victory, giving the No. 1-ranked Oklahoma softball team its 49th win of the season with just one loss.

Oklahoma swept the Bedlam series with No. 6 Oklahoma State on the road and registered its 41st consecutive win, just six away from the all-time NCAA record. The win also completed an undefeated Big 12 regular season (18-0) for the third time in program history.

Storako, a graduate transfer from Michigan won her 16th game of the season in 15 starts and also eclipsed the 1,000 mark for career strikeouts with four punch outs in the Sunday’s series finale.

Super senior captain Grace Lyons had a couple of hits in the game and drove in three with a double in the third that scored two and put the Sooners ahead 2-0 and a sacrifice fly in the sixth that scored Jayda Coleman, who was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning and advanced to third on a single by Tiare Jennings.

Alynah Torres, hitting in the eighth spot in the lineup on Sunday, drove in a pair of runs with a double to left field in the fifth inning. She had two hits on the day in four trips to the plate. Lyons and Torres accounted for four of OU’s five runs and four of the Sooners’ seven hits in the game.

Oklahoma State scored its only run of the game in the sixth inning on a double down the right-field line by Micaela Wark that scored Chyenne Factor, who had singled.

Senior Lexi Kilfoyl, who pitched 2.2 innings of relief in the series opener on Friday, started in the circle for the Cowgirls. She pitched 6.0 innings, giving up all five OU runs (only three of which were earned), striking out five and walking four. Kilfoyl was charged with the loss, which droped her season record to 12-5.

Oklahoma will be the No, 1 seed next week in the Big 12 Tournament. The Sooners will play the winner of the contest between Baylor and Iowa State on Friday.
