Oklahoma softball claims fourth straight Big 12 Player of the Week honors
By Chip Rouse
For the fourth consecutive week, an Oklahoma softball player has been named Big 12 Player of the Week.
Haley Lee, a graduate transfer from Texas A&M, has been a major contributor in the Sooners getting off to a 37-1 start in the 2023 season, and the redshirt-senior was a big reason OU was able to sweep three games last weekend over the Texas Tech Red Raiders.
Lee, who has been the designated player most of this season in the Sooners’ lineup, batted .571 in the Texas Tech series with three home runs, four runs batted in and four runs scored. The left-handed power hitter posted an on-base percentage of .667 and a 1.857 slugging percentage in the three games against the Red Raiders.
The Texas A&M transfer is having a stellar season for the Sooners. Through 38 games, she is tied for the team lead (with Jayda Coleman) in home runs with 11, is tied for second on the team in RBI with 36, on base percentage (1.412) and slugging percentage (.874). She leads the Big 12 in conference play with a .574 batting average.
Since March 21, Sooners Jayda Coleman, Grace Lyons, Tiare Jennings and now Lee have earned Player of the Week honors in consecutive weeks. Jordy Bahl and Alex Storako have been named Big 12 Pitcher of the Week this season.
Dariana Orme of Baylor joined OU’s Lee as weekly award winners in the conference this week. Orme is the Pitcher of the Week in the Big 12. It was the third time this season she has received this weekly honor.
No other Big 12 team has ever won Player of the Week honors in the conference four straight weeks in the same season.
