Oklahoma softball star Jayda Coleman is the Big 12 Player of the Week after helping lead the No. 1-ranked Sooners to a 7-0 record last week.

In back-to-back midweek wins last week over San Diego State and then-No. Florida State, Coleman batted .524 with two home runs, two doubles, a triple and nine runs batted in.

Four of Oklahoma’s wins last week were over teams ranked in the nation’s top 25, and Coleman was a factor in all four. The junior center fielder collected nine hits in 15 plate appearances, including a pair of fence-clearing blasts, a double, a triple and five RBI.

And she saved the best for the weekend finale against No. 22 Auburn on Sunday. The Sooner leadoff hitter had a career game in the leadoff position with four hits in four at-bats, including a two-run homer.

When you add it all up, Coleman’s production for the week totaled 11 hits, eight runs and 21 total bases.

Coleman leads the Sooner team with eight home runs in 2023 along with a .639 on-base percentage and a .958 slugging percentage. Her .584 on-base percentage a year ago was fourth best in the country.

The third-year Sooner player shares Big 12 honors this week with Dariana Orme of Baylor, who received Pitcher of the Week honors.

This the second time in her Sooner career that Coleman has earned the Big 12 Player of the Week award. She also won it as a freshman in 2021.

Oklahoma leads the nation with a 27-1 record. The reigning back-to-back national champions begin Big 12 play this weekend at Iowa State.
