While one Oklahoma basketball team is fighting to stay out of last place the Sooner women moved into a first-place tie with Texas following an 84-57 home win over Texas Tech on Wednesday.
Junior Aubrey Joens’ 23 points led the Sooner attack, which featured three other players in double figures.
Oklahoma scored the first 12 points in the contest and were never headed from there. By halftime, the No. 15 Sooners had built a 40-22 advantage and the margin expanded further in both the third and fourth quarters.
In addition to leading OU in the scoring column, Joens also pulled down 11 rebounds. Liz Scott contributed 13 points, Madi Williams 12 and Nevaeh Tot 11 to add to the Sooner offensive attack.
Freshman center Beatrice Culliton delivered a career-high 10 of the Sooners’ 27 team assists on 34 made field goals. It was the fourth straight game in which the OU women had 27 or more assists.
The win over Texas Tech completed the regular-season series sweep. OU won the earlier game this season, defeating the Red Raiders 89-79 in Lubbock.
The Big 12-leading Lady Sooners (21-4, 11-3) are next in action on Sunday at Kansas (16-8, 6-7). Oklahoma won the first game this season between the two teams 80-74.
