Oklahoma basketball: OU women cruise to 25-point win over West Virginia

While the Oklahoma basketball men suffered a disastrous performance at West Virginia, the Sooner women delivered a blowout win of their own over the Lady Mountaineers.
Five Sooners scored in double figure and OU built up a 29-point advantage in the first half in cruising to a 93-68 win over West Virginia Saturday afternoon at Lloyd Noble Center.
It is uncanny how similar the final scores were between the two Oklahoma basketball games on Saturday. The 25-point win by the OU women was nearly matched by the 32-point win by the West Virginia men over the Sooners in the game played in Morgantown, West Virginia.
Skylar Vann’s 16 points off the bench led the Lady Sooners, who got a lot of help from starters Liz Scott and Ana Llanusa (both with 15 points), Nevaeh Tot (12) and Madi Williams (11). OU shot 52 percent for the game (36 of 69).
West Virginia’s Ja’Nayia Quinerly led all scorers in the game with 24 points and Madisen Smith added 19.
For all intents and purposes, Oklahoma had the game put away at halftime with a 55-38 lead, It was an historic first half in that the Sooners set a program record 18 assists. That was a record that had stood for nearly 40 years. They ended up with 28 assists for the game.
Oklahoma completed a regular-season sweep of the Lady Mountaineers. The Sooners won the earlier game in Morgantown 98-77.
“We played really well today,” said OU head coach Jennie Barancyzk in her postgame interview session. “It was a really fun day, and I thought that our crowd was awesome.”
The Sooners exceeded 90 points for the 13th time this season and for the fifth time against a Big 12 opponent.
Next up for the 20th ranked Sooners, who picked up their 18th win of the season against four losses with the win over West Virginia, is a road game at Baylor on Tuesday. The OU men are also at Baylor this week on Wednesday.
