The Oklahoma football 2023 recruiting class is the Sooners’ best class in recent history, according to the 247Sports recruiting database.

The day after college football National Signing Day, the Sooners’ 2023 class ranked No. 4 in the 247Sports team rankings. That is the highest an OU recruiting class has ranked since 247Sports began tracking and ranking recruits and recruiting classes in 1999.

According to the 247Sports, the previous highest Sooner recruiting class was in 2010 when Bob Stoops landed a class ranked fifth best in the country. That class included 30 recruits. There were no five-stars among the group but 17 rated as four stars.

Notables in the 2010 OU class were S Tony Jefferson, RB Brennan Clay, QB Blake Bell, WR Kenny Stills, DE Geneo Grissom, TE/H-back Trey Millard, and CB Aaron Colvin.

The Sooners’ 2023 class, which contains three five-star prospects and 16 rated as four stars, totals 26. Oklahoma’s class points total of 289.07 for the 26-member 2023 class is also the school’s best since at least 1999. The 2010 class points total was 283.58.

Oklahoma’s 247Sports class ranking places the Sooners’ 2023 class just below No. 1 Alabama, Georgia and Texas.

As talented as Oklahoma’s 2023 class appears on paper, it really doesn’t mean anything unless it also translates into production on the field and team wins. Brent Venables has to be pleased not only with the quality but the quantity of the talent that makes up the Sooner’s second recruiting class since he became the new head coach of Oklahoma football in December 2021.

ESPN also ranked the 2023 Oklahoma class as the fourth best this recruiting cycle and Rivals listed the Sooners as the sixth-best class.
