Men’s Oklahoma basketball gets a second shot at its first win of the 2022-23 season on Friday night at the Lloyd Noble Center.

After a dismal season-opening performance in a 52-51 loss to Sam Houston State earlier in the week, the Sooners host Arkansas-Pine Bluff in hopes of getting back on a winning track.

After the stunning loss to SHSU in OU’s season opener on Monday, Sooner head coach Porter Moser emphasized to reporters, “This is not going to define us. How we react to this will define us.”

Oklahoma and the UAPB Golden Lions have met just twice on the hardwood with the Sooners winning both games. One of those wins was a 70-point victory, 94-24, in 2003, the fourth largest margin of victory in OU men’s basketball history.

The Golden Lions promise to be much more competitive in the contest on Friday night. UAPB comes to the LNC on Friday with a 1-1 record after losing by just a single point, 73-72, to 14th-ranked TCU on Monday. The Golden Lions led for 27 minutes in that game.

Oklahoma is a 29.5-point favorite, according to Las Vegas oddsmakers.

This will be the third game this week for coach Solomin Bozeman’s Golden Lions. They defeated Champion Christian 87-55 on Wednesday.

Senior guard Shaun Doss Jr. is Arkansas P-B’s leading scorer, averaging 21.5 points and a field-goal percentage of 51.6 percent.

Five OU players made their debut for the Sooners in the loss to Sam Houston State. One of those newcomers, Grant Sherfield, led the team with 14 points on Monday. Sherfield, who transferred from Nevada, shot five of eight from the floor and was two of three from behind the three-point arc.
