When you turn on the film for Oklahoma football one of the biggest things you take away from it, is man the wide receiver room for Oklahoma looks outstanding. The group is all over the tape getting separation, getting open blocking downfield, and being a menace for opposing defenses. They may it very difficult to try and take away the staple of Jeff Lebby’s offense which is the interior run game. This group can get yards after the catch, make difficult grabs, and also separate in the vertical game. While the group is headlined by Marvin Mims, it is certainly not just the 17 show for the Sooners

Marvin Mims

Everyone knows who Marvin Mims is! The guy will have a real chance at winning the  Biletnikoff award this year, with his hot start. Nobody can seem to cover him, and he really loves catching the deep ball. Mims likely would have transferred had there not been a change in the coaching staff, and he sure is taking advantage of the opportunities he’s been given with the new staff. He is already the favorite target of QB Dillon Gabriel. Mims has 18 catches for 397 yards and 3 touchdowns already this year.

Theo Wease

Theo Wease came in highly touted out of high school, given a five-star status, and was the #2 WR in his class, behind former Sooner and current Razorback Jadon Haselwood. Wease has had some unfortunate circumstances that have come up in his career, like the injuries he dealt with for a majority of last season. In 2020, he showed a lot of promise but did have issues with drops. Wease had a nice-looking touchdown grab in a tight window against Nebraska and had a long touchdown last week against Kansas State. Theo has racked up quite a few yards after the catch so far this season and has really turned it up the last two games, both against power five foes.

Jalil Farooq

Jalil Farooq has made some critical grabs for Oklahoma, after having a coming-out party against Oregon last year in the Alamo Bowl. Farooq has a lot of ability and has turned heads in camp. He only has nine catches on the year to this point but is averaging more than 15 yards per reception. He had a nice-looking touchdown early against Nebraska as well. This trio of Farooq, Wease, and Mims is special very few have a trio of that caliber.

Drake Stoops

Drake Stoops only has eight catches on the year, but if you tuned into the Kansas State game he should’ve had a few more, including one where he put his defender in a blender and created quite a lot of separation. He would’ve easily scored, but Gabriel misfired on the toss, then Stoops was open on a 4th and 3, and once again the Sooner QB threw an inaccurate ball. Stoops is a crafty route-runner and quite a frustrating addition to an already talented group of defensive coordinators. In his career Stoops has made big plays over the years, the son of the legendary coach also has this amazing moment as well.
