Oklahoma Football: OU-TCU score predictions/game breakdown
By Connor Pasby
It was a surprising performance for the Oklahoma football team against Kansas State last weekend. The Wildcats came into Norman and gave the Sooners their first loss of the season. Now, OU heads to Fort Worth to take on undefeated TCU. Here’s some score predictions/game breakdown from our StorminInNorman team:

Score: OU 30 – TCU 24
Yes, it was a disappointing performance in Norman last week, but I expect the Sooners to come out of Fort Worth with a win this week. It’s not an easy task, Coach Sonny Dykes and TCU have looked solid through three games, and their offense has looked smooth under Max Duggan and his big, physical receivers. I expect the defense to take a step forward from what we saw the previous week, and cause some turnovers, which the Sooners really need. It’s a similar style of offense that Nebraska runs, but obviously TCU has more weapons than Nebraska. We saw a setback from the defensive line vs Kansas State, but they should turn it around against a TCU offensive line that isn’t superb.
Personally, I thought the Dillon Gabriel hate was idiotic after last Saturday. Yes, he missed a few big throws, but still threw for over 300 yards. I expect Gabriel to hit on some of those missed opportunities a week ago. The Sooners will get Mims going early, and also establish a running game. Oklahoma should be able to run the ball against this TCU front. The offense has to keep drives going, and not find themselves in 3rd and longs. It’s not going to be a cake walk in Fort Worth, Sooners will prevail late.

Score: OU 34 – TCU 24
On Saturday, we are going to see what this Oklahoma team is made of. The Sooners are going to have their hands full with a TCU offense that is considerably more skilled and explosive than what Kansas State brings to the table. TCU quarterback Max Duggan is the real deal and is going to pose a giant challenge to an Oklahoma defense desperately needing to rebound and separate themselves from a bad performance a week ago. The Sooners need to be able to stay on the field and stay out of third-and-long situations. They also need to find a way get off the field on third down on defense. I think they will do better in both areas.

Oklahoma bounces back in a big way, after what was sure to have been a difficult week in the film room. Kansas State did a lot well, but last week’s loss had a lot more to do with what the Sooners did not do well. Head into Red River Saturday with a little momentum.

Score: OU 55 – TCU 17
Oklahoma has only lost two regular-season games in a row one time in the entirety of the 2000’s, and Lincoln Riley and Spencer Rattler aren’t walking through that door this year. After a week of hearing how terrible they are, the Sooners bounce back on both sides of the ball and head into Red River week with a new head of steam.

Score: OU 16 – TCU 13
The 2022 Sooners don’t have the overwhelming talent gap in conference play that they’ve enjoyed since 2015. Clearly the defense struggles with dual threat quarterbacks and both Max Duggan and Chandler Morris present a threat in that area. However, TCU is in a rebuilding phase and the Sooners have enough talent (Marvin Mims) to squeak by by a field goal. Brent Venables’s first trap game should be a victory leading into what should be a very tough outing against Texas on Oct. 8.

Score: OU 49 – TCU 21
The short passing game may give the Sooners slight trouble early on, but I believe the defense eventually returns to the form they had in weeks 1-3. The offense will have another great outing. The Sooners bounce back and take home the W.

The Sooners will be playing with a chip on their collective shoulder this week. They fell a dozen spots in the poll after being beaten at home by K-State, and will be looking to rebound against the Horned Frogs. The Sooners have usually had good luck against the Frogs, and I expect they will go down to Fort Worth and take care of business.
