On Saturday there was a three-way tie for the fourth most wins in college football history, deadlocked at 929 wins between the Oklahoma Sooners, Notre Dame Fighting Irish, and Texas Longhorns. So this marked a monumental occasion in the history of Oklahoma football.

The Sooners ended the day in sole possession of 4th place, passing both schools and taking sole possession of the No. 4 spot. The Sooners defeated Kent State, while Notre Dame and Texas both fell to Marshall, and Alabama respectively.  The Sooners now with 930 wins trail only Michigan (978), Alabama (944), and Ohio State (944) all time.

Oklahoma football also moved into a tie with Notre Dame with a .7285 win percentage. How much further could OU separate themselves from the Irish and the Longhorns this season? With Quinn Ewers is out 4-6 weeks, and the Irish struggling and losing to Marshall, the lead on those two could become sizable.

Oklahoma football has been the winningest program in the sport since the second world war and since the turn of the century. Oklahoma has been the pillar of consistency over the decades in the modern era, and that doesn’t appear to be slowing down any time soon. Saturday marked a special occasion in the history of Oklahoma football, as the Sooners prep for a trip to Lincoln to take on the Cornhuskers, something to keep in mind!
