After being with the Panthers for less than three months Baker Mayfield was voted team captain by his teammates. Clearly, they aren’t putting any stock into the conspiracy theories about Mayfield, floated on Twitter spaces by the far reaches of Brown’s online community and their local beat. It appears the things we had been told about Baker Mayfield for several years are a lot more accurate.

A tough start but the team believes

The Panthers lost their opening game of the year to the Cleveland Browns, in a game that ended in controversial fashion, to say the least, with the officials making mistakes on two calls that cost the Panthers, and resulted in a chance for Cade York to nail a 58-yard field goal attempt for the win. Still, in the fourth quarter, Baker was brilliant, he went 5 of 6 for 136 yards, scored a rushing touchdown, a passing touchdown on a deep ball to Robby Anderson, and then led the would-be game-winning field goal drive. His passer rating was a perfect 158.3 in the closing period.

"Panthers players expressed their confidence in Mayfield in the post-game press conference“He showed a lot of fight, I think we need to help him out more. But he showed us exactly who he is, he’s a fighter. We arent gonna let this thing get to us, we are going to get back to the drawing board and keep going.”– Star RB Christian McCaffery“Keep fightin’, [he] played with a lot of heart and courage and I can rock with that all day.” WR Robby Anderson added."

Needless to say, Mayfield has found a place in his new home, where he is being embraced the way he has been everywhere else on his journies.
