Five days and counting until the kickoff of the 2022 season for the Oklahoma football Sooners. Today we will reminisce upon the winningest quarterback in college football history, Oklahoma’s top No.5, Steve Davis!

Steve Davis the football star

Davis led the Oklahoma Sooners to back-to-back national championships in 1974, and 1975. The ’74 team is one of college football’s greatest teams, though they were on probation they won the title anyhow, and they deserved it.

Oklahoma was an immovable object in those two seasons. The Sooners would only lose to Kansas in that two-year journey, in an inexplicable way, making it clear that any given day was a true saying. Steve Davis spent some time as a commentator in the late 70s and into the 80s. He worked for both CBS and ABC at different points.

Steve Davis the legacy

Steve Davis was named the MVP of the 1976 Orange Bowl in a victory that would net the Oklahoma Sooners their fifth national championship crown. Steve Davis is considered by many to be one of the greatest wishbone quarterbacks of all time, and it’s hard to argue with that 32-1-1 record on the field of play. Today we look back on the late Steve Davis who passed in a plane crash back in 2013, with just five days until kickoff!
