Oklahoma football is no stranger to sending players to the Senior Bowl and no stranger to seeing the players they sent to play at a high level.

The Reese’s Senior Bowl is held every year in Birmingham, Alabama, and is a place for senior college football players to showcase their skills in front of NFL scouts and coaching staff. A single NFL team’s coaches will provide coaching for each team, so two in total. However, there are scouts to watch players throughout the week at both practices and the game.

Last year, the top player at the event was DT Perrion Winfrey, as he won the honor for the week and MVP of the contest; Brian Asamoah took home honors as the top linebacker. This season, a crop of new Sooners will earn invites to compete and participate in the annual event.

Eight Sooners are currently on the watch list. The players are as follows: RB Eric Gray and DT Jeffery Johnson. OT Wanya Morris, DB Trey Morrison, OG Chris Murray. DT Jalen Redmond, WR Drake Stoops, and TE Brayden Willis. This good group of young men and football players could make some noise in Birmingham next off-season.

The Senior Bowl has boosted many players over the years going into that final stretch before the NFL draft. The 2017 Heisman Trophy winner Baker Mayfield showed out in Birmingham, and impressed scouts, which led to him being the number one player selected. DB Tre Norwood got himself drafted primarily due to an excellent week at the Senior Bowlappearsaring to pay that off big time with quality play for the Steelers. Jeremiah Hall got a chance to show scouts he can play TE and did not need to be shoed into just being a fullback. Sooners have put in work recognized for years and will get another opportunity this year. How many of these eight will make the final cut, anyone outside the radar who might make their way there? Only one way to find out! The season kicks out in less than two weeks!
