It was an unforgettable run for the Oklahoma baseball Sooners as they fought their way to the Men’s College World Series championship series before falling to Ole Miss in two games.

The focus now is on the 2022 MLB Draft. The Sooners have had a few rising stars who have boosted their draft stock in the postseason run. The MLB Draft will consist of 20 rounds, beginning today and running through July 19 on MLB Network and MLB.com.

Three Oklahoma players were drafted a year ago (first baseman Tyler Hardman and pitchers Wyatt Olds and Jason Ruffcorn). Since 2000, the highest draft count for the Sooners has been 11 in 2011 and 10 in 2015.

Six Sooners have been taken in the first round since the 2000 season with right-handed pitcher Jon Gray going the highest, the No. 3 overall pick in the 2013 MLB Draft by the Colorado Rockies. Left-handed pitcher David Purcey was taken 16th overall in the 2004 draft by the Toronto Blue Jays, catcher Jackson Williams was a first-round pick by the San Francisco Giants in 2007, Kyler Murray was the 9th overall pick in the opening round in 2018 by the Oakland A’s, and more recenty, pitcher Cade Cavalli was selected 22nds overall in 2020 by the Washington Nationals. Pitcher Garrett Richards was the 42ns overall pick in the first round of the 2009 supplemental draft.

The Oklahoma MLB Draft probables is a little leaner this year than in previous drafts, but there are several sure shots, starting with two-way player Cade Horton.

Here’s a breakdown of each Sooner who is expecting to have his name called in this year’s draft:
