Oklahoma football: Ranking the top seven linebackers in school history

The number seven has special significance for the Oklahoma football program. The Sooners have won seven national championships, and seven OU players have won the Heisman Trophy, the most coveted individual prize in college football.

Playing off that meaningful number in the tradition-rich history of Sooner football, we are publishing a continuing series of articles ranking the top seven players in Oklahoma history at seven different position groups. Today we look at the linebacker group.

One position where the Oklahoma has shined over the years is at linebacker.

Going through and picking out just the top seven at this important position in school history is a tough order. No two people would agree on the individual rankings or about who made the list and who didn’t.

OU has had many greats at the position, and without further delay, here are the top seven in the history of storied Oklahoma football.
