Oklahoma football: Sooners get commitment from marquee O-lineman
By Chip Rouse
The July recruitment parade for the Oklahoma football program continued on Friday with a verbal commitment from elite offensive line prospect Cayden Green out of the Kansas City area.
Green, rated four stars by both 247Sports and Rivals, is the No. 12 O-lineman in the 2023 class and No. 92 overall, according to the 247Sports Player Composite. The 6-foot, 5-inch, 315-pound offensive lineman chose the Sooners over his final four list of schools that included, LSU, Missouri and Nebraska.
Green is the 12th player to join the Oklahoma 2023 recruiting class and the third this week. The Sooners earned commitments from three-star linebacker Phil Picciotti and four-star wide-receiver Jaquaize Pettaway, who chose OU over Texas, earlier in the week.
Florida, Georgia, Baylor, Miami (Florida), Michigan and Notre Dame also had high interest in the elite O-line prospect.
Green made his announcement on CBS Sports HQ on Friday and credited the opportunity to play for Sooner offensive line coach Bill Bedenbaugh, a big part in his final decision.
The Sooners are expecting a couple more likely 2023 commitments this month from Logan Howland, a three-star offensive lineman from New Jersey, and Adepoju Adebawore, a four-star edge rusher, who like Green is out of the Kansas City area.
Both Iowa and Michigan are high on Howland, and Arkansas, Florida State and Georgia are among the schools interested in Adebaware, but both are reported to be leaning toward the Sooners. We should expect decisions from these two prospects very soon.
At the beginning of the week, Brent Venables’ 2023 OU recruiting class ranked 41st in the 247Sports class rankings for the current cycle. After the three commitments received this week, the Sooners are up to 18th in the class rankings.
