Oklahoma baseball hasn’t played this late in the season since 2010, as later today it gets ready to take the field for the opening game of the 2022 Men’s College World Series in Omaha.

The surging Sooners (42-22) find themselves against a similar opponent in Game 1, taking on a strong Texas A&M team (42-18) from the original Big 12, but now toiling in the SEC.

The Aggies are coming off winning the College Station Super Regional in two games against Louisville. Oklahoma comes in storming hot like the Midwest weather after upsetting the Virginia Tech Hokies in the Blacksburg Super Regional.

The Sooners are carrying a 38-10 record in their last 48 games when they score five-plus runs and have continued their red-hot streak in the NCAA Tournament.

We have seen different guys step up for the Sooners throughout the postseason. Tanner Tredaway has been on an absolute tear in the postseason, where he’s batting .483 (14-29), along with three home runs and six RBI’s in seven games. Tredaway will be a key player for OU in the CWS, and he’s also going to embrace the Omaha opportunity.

"“We just try to stay in the moment, and I think we enjoy this. We embrace this. This is once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. I think we all understand that. But more than anything, we’re here to make a statement,” Tredaway said."

The Sooners have been leaning on the motto “Being the David to the Goliath”. They love the underdog mentality, and have been embracing that role in this dominant postseason run.

"“I think it helps us play with a chip on our shoulder, something to prove people wrong, that we came in here ranked eighth. First ones out, I think that just rallies the guys, gets them fired up a little bit, “ Peyton Graham said at the CWS podium."

It’s been tough opponent after tough opponent for Oklahoma, and it’ll be the same case in the first round of the CWS. The Aggies have won 12 of their last 14 games, including the postseason. They have been undefeated in the NCAA Tournament after sweeping the College Station Regional in three games, and beating Louisville twice in the Super Regional. It’ll be the first CWS trip since 2017 for the Aggies, and they’ll have similar faces against Oklahoma and Texas.

The Sooners and Aggies will open this year’s CWS at 1 pm CT on ESPN, followed by Texas and Notre Dame at 7 CT on ESPN. It’s a blockbuster opening round in the CWS in Omaha.
