The top-ranked men’s Oklahoma golf team made up a six-stroke deficit entering the final round of the 54-hole NCAA Norman Regional and won the team championship by 10 strokes over runner-up Auburn.

Logan McAlister shot a final-round five-under-par 67, equaling the best round by a Sooner over the three-day regional tournament as Oklahoma posted a score of 12-under 276 over the final 18 holes to capture the team championship. All four Sooners who contributed to the winning team score finished in top 10 of the individual leaderboard.

McAlister led the Oklahoma attack with a cumulative score of 208 (-8) for the 54-hole tournament, which earned him an outright fourth-place finish. Freshman Patrick Welch and Drew Goodman, who led the Sooners with an opening-round 67 at the par-72, 7,452-yard Jimmie Austin Golf Club in Norman, tied for fifth with scored of 210 (-6), and Rutgers transfer Chris Gotterup finished with a three-day total of 211 (-5), good for a ninth-place tie.

Redshirt freshman Stephen Campbell Jr., who did not factor in the four-man team score, tied for 23rd on the leaderboard with a 54-hole score of 217 (+1).

The Sooners, the No. 1 overall seed in this year’s NCAA Men’s Golf Championship and last year’s national runner-up to national champion Pepperdine, now advance to the NCAA Championships May 27-June 1 at the Grayhawk Golf Club in Scottsdale, Arizona, along with the top five teams at each of the six NCAA Regional locations.

Qualifying teams out of the Norman Regional, in the order of their finish, are:

  1. Oklahoma                277-285-276 = 838 (-26)
  2. Auburn                     280-276-292 = 848 (-16)
  3. Ole Miss                  287-281-281 = 849 (-15)
  4. Texas                       282-286-284 = 852 (-12)
  5. Utah                        280-292-288 = 860 (-4)

Five teams out of the Big 12 will advance out of the regionals to the NCAA Championships in Scottsdale: No, 1 Oklahoma, No.2 Oklahoma State, No. 7 Texas, No. 8 Texas Tech and No. 29 Kansas.
