Oklahoma football added another key piece to its 2022 roster from the transfer portal this week with the commitment of wide-receiver Javian Hester.

The former 4-star prospect out of Tulsa’s Booker T. Washington High School is transferring to OU from Missouri, where he redshirted his true freshman season and played seven games in 2021. Hester was the top-rated recruit in Mizzou’s 2020 class.

He made 12 receptions for the Tigers in 2021 for 225 yards and two touchdowns. Hester’s 6-foot, 3-inch length is ideal for the new offensive system Jeff Lebby is installing at OU, and he gives the Sooners an additional weapon to account for.

Hester comes to Oklahoma as a redshirt sophomore with several more years of eligibility remaining. He will likely be used out of the slot, where he was utilized for the majority of snaps while at Missouri.

Rated as the No. 3 player in Oklahoma out of high school, Hester adds to a speedy and talented wide-receiver corps at Oklahoma for the coming season, which includes Marvin Mims, Theo Wease, Drake Stoops and Jahlil Farooq.

Hester is the second player picked up by Oklahoma from the transfer portal this week and the 13th overall since the end of last season. Earlier in the week, Pittsburgh quarterback Davis Beville announced he was transferring to OU.

Oklahoma been busy in the transfer department this offseason. The net gain from the portal has been seven after losing six former Sooners following Lincoln Riley’s departure for USC. Included among the outgoing transfers were QBs Caleb Williams and Spencer Rattler, WR Mario William and TE Austin Stogner.

247Sports this week ranked OU fourth in its 2022 Transfer Football Team Rankings. The top five includes USC (16 commitment), Ole Miss (14), LSU (15), Oklahoma (13) and Alabama (5).
