Quarterbacks were a prized commodity in the transfer portal following the 2021 college season and, according to at least one national source, quarterbacks affiliated with the Oklahoma football program were at the top of the list.

Paul Myerberg of USA Today Sports has put together a ranking of the top-10 most impactful quarterback transfers in Power Five conferences for the 2022 season. Myerberg’s ranking includes transfer quarterbacks who have changed schools since last season and are expected to have a prime impact in every Power Five conference in the coming season.

Eight of the 10 transfer quarterbacks who made the top-10 list are going from one Power
Five conference to another.

The transfer highway for quality quarterbacks was busiest in Norman, Oklahoma. Tucked between Caleb Williams, the transfer QB Myberg says will have the most impact in the 2022 season, and Spencer Rattler, who also was in an Oklahoma crimson jersey last season, is the new starting quarterback for the Sooners, Dillon Gabriel. Those three are ranked one, two and three in the USA Today ranking.

Here is what Myerberg had to say about Gabriel;

"“Beyond his two-plus years of experience at UCF and his sterling touchdown-to-interception ratio (70-14), Gabriel seems poised to flourish with the Sooners due to his connection to new offensive coordinator Jeff Lebby, who previously held the same position with the (UCF) Knights.“He’s a great fit for the scheme and accompanying skill talent (at OU)”"

Rattler started the first six games for the Sooners last season before being replaced by Williams, who replaced Rattler in the game with Texas and started the final seven games of the 2021 season, including OU’s Alamo Bowl win over Oregon.

Myerberg described Rattler’s traumatic final season with the Sooners as going “from Heisman frontrunner status to start the season to holding a clipboard behind Williams.”

Myerberg also ranked OU’s Gabriel as one of the top 10 college quarterbacks entering the 2022 season in a separate article.
