Grace Lyons became the next Oklahoma softball player in line for a three-homer game as the top-ranked Sooners made short work of visiting Wichita State on Tuesday in posting their 30th win of the season.

As they have all season, the Sooners (30-0) combined shutdown pitching with a power-laden lineup in collecting a 10-1, five-inning victory at Marita Hynes Field over the Shockers of Wichita State (17-10). It was the 25th time this season that Oklahoma has shortened the game and recorded a run-rule victory.

Senior shortstop Grace Lyons cleared the fences three times with home runs in the first, third and fifth innings and accounting for five of Oklahoma’s 10-run onslaught. Her two-run, walk-off  round-tripper over the left field wall in the home half of the fifth completed the scoring and ended the game.

This was the second time in her career that Lyons has gone yard three times in the same game and the second time in a little more than a week that a Sooner player has done so. Lynnsie Elam hit three home runs in consecutive at bats in a 20-0 run-rule rout of Iowa on March 20.

OU made efficient work of its offense with 10 runs on 10 hits. Tiare Jennings and Jocelyn Alo both collected a couple of hits and Jennings drove in three runs, including a solo home run of her own leading off in the OU half if the opening inning.

Not to be overshadowed in Tuesday night’s win, Sooner freshman pitcher Jordy Bahl picked up her 13th win of the season, allowing just one unearned run on three hits while striking out 11 and issuing just one base on balls.

Wichita State actually took a 1-0 lead in its first at bat, the result of and Oklahoma error, but the Sooners quickly erased the deficit in the bottom half of the inning.

The win was OU’s 32nd consecutive victory dating back to last season and the 11th time in 2022 that the Sooners have recorded at least four home runs in a game.

Oklahoma takes a weekend off from the Big 12 schedule, hosting the University of Alabama at Birmingham for a pair of game this Friday and Saturday.
