Over the last two months, Brent Venables and his Oklahoma football staff have brought in 31 newcomers (21 freshman recruits and 10 transfers) to the player roster but also a host of new staff additions.

Venables has added seven new assistant coaches to the staff since being named the new OU head coach on Dec. 5. He has also made a number of additions to the football support staff and added another support staff member on Wednesday.

Three of Oklahoma’s new assistant coaches have followed Venables from Clemson, and on Wednesday it was reported that former Clemson offensive analyst J.P. Losman is joining the Sooner staff to work in player personnel and football administration.

Losman is a former college and NFL quarterback. For the past two seasons, he has served as an offensive analyst on Dabo Swinney’s Clemson staff. He worked with former Clemson All-American quarterback and No. 1 overall NFL Draft pick Trevor Lawrence in 2019 and ’20. Before that, he was a student coaching intern at Clemson (2018-19).

A second-team All-Conference USA selection as a quarterback at Tulane, Losman was a second-round pick of the Buffalo Bills in the 2004 NFL Draft. He spent eight seasons total in the NFL with the Bills, Oakland Raiders, Seattle Seahawks and Miami Dolphins. His first five NFL seasons were in Buffalo, where he posted a 10-23 record at quarterback with 6,271 passing yards and 33 touchdowns.

Losman will join former Alabama assistants Ted Roof, the new OU defensive coordinator, co-defensive coordinator and defensive tackles coach Todd Bates and defensive ends coach Miguel Chavis on the OU staff under Venables.
