After enduring several players leaving the Oklahoma football program via the transfer portal after the coaching move by Lincoln Riley, the Sooners finally received some positive news on that front.

Junior wide-receiver Theo Wease has announced that he is returning for his senior season. The former five-star recruit, who was a member of the 2019 class that brought Spencer Rattler, Jadon Haselwood and Austin Stogner to Oklahoma.

The latter three all entered the transfer portal after learning that learning that Riley was leaving for USC and have subsequently committed to other programs for the 2022 season. According to Eddie Radosevich of SoonerScoop.com, however, and reported by Yahoo.com and other sports news outlets, Wease has removed his name from the transfer portal.

Wease tied for the team lead in receiving in his sophomore season in 2020 with 37 receptions for 520 yards and was third on the team with four touchdown catches. He averaged 14.3 yards per catch. He played in just one game this past season, however, after suffering a lower body injury.

Wease will join Marvin Mims, who will be a junior next season, and soon-to-be sophomore Mario Williams as Oklahoma’s three main receivers in 2022.

When Wease signed with Oklahoma as a member of the 2019 recruiting class, he was rated by Rivals.com as the No. 3 wide receiver in the class and the No. 11 player overall.

His return will be a major boost to coordinator Jeff Lebby’s offense as well as the Sooners’  conference and national title chances in Brent Venables first season as Oklahoma head coach.
