The inconsistent performance of the supposedly high-powered Oklahoma football offense this season finally rose up to bite the Sooners.

The Baylor Bears, losers of seven consecutive games to Oklahoma and 28 of the 31 games the two teams have played before Saturday, looked anything but underdogs. Baylor was the aggressor from the very beginning of Saturday’s game, despite the fact that Oklahoma put the first points on the board.

Baylor dominated the Sooners statistically the entire afternoon and in the process held OU to its fewest points and total offensive yards in the Lincoln Riley era at Oklahoma, which goes back seven seasons.

Oklahoma’s 14 points were the fewest scored by the Sooners in Lincoln Riley’s seven seasons in Norman and the fewest by an OU team since scoring just 6 in a 40-6 loss to Clemson in 2014 in the Russell Athletic Bowl. Additionally, the 260 yards of total offense by the Sooners was the fewest in the Riley era at OU.

Here are nine more notable numbers from Oklahoma first loss of the 2021 season in recognition of the Sooners’ nine wins thus far this season:

2 — Kicker Gabe Brkic missed two field goals in the game. It marked the first time in his OU career he has missed multiple field-goal attempts in a game.

5 — The Oklahoma-Baylor score was tied 7-7 at halftime. Five times this season the Sooners have scored 10 or fewer points in the first half.

11 — The Sooner defense had 11 tackles for loss against Baylor, the most in a single game this season by Oklahoma.

16 — Oklahoma has recorded at least one takeaway in 16 consecutive games and in 17 of the last 18.

22 — Oklahoma’s third-down conversion percentage on offense in the Baylor game (2 of 9).

23 — Oklahoma 23-game win streak in the month of November ended with the loss at Baylor. Ironically, Baylor was the last team to defeat the Sooners in November (2014).

44 — The Sooners have scored in their last 44 trips inside the red zone, including in their only two red-zone trips on Saturday.

46, 782 — Attendance at McLane Stadium in Waco on Saturday, although from a visitor’s perspective it seemed like double that.
