The 31-point Oklahoma football win over Texas Tech on Saturday helped solidify the Sooners’ hold on the No. 4 spot in the national rankings.

Two days from now we’ll see how much weight the Associated Press Top 25 and the Coaches Poll hold when the College Football Playoff selection committee reveals its first top-25 rankings for the 2021 season.

The Sooners (9-0, 6-0) have been everywhere from No. 2 to No. 6 this season in the two major human polls through the first nine weeks of the college football season. Over the next month, Oklahoma will embark on the most difficult stretch of the 2021 schedule and three games that will determine OU’s worthiness as a national championship contender.

Georgia, a 34-7 winner over Florida on Saturday, remains the unanimous No. 1 and received all the first-place votes in both major polls. Rounding out the top-six spots in the AP poll are, in order, Cincinnati, Alabama, OU, Michigan State and Ohio State. The top-six teams are the same in the Coaches Poll, except for a switch at Nos. 5 and 6 between Michigan State and Ohio State.

Before Iowa State’s loss at West Virginia this weekend, Oklahoma was scheduled to play three ranked Big 12 opponents in consecutive weeks in November. The Cyclones dropped out of the top 25, but Oklahoma State and Baylor remain. OSU is No. 11 this week in both polls, while Baylor, the surprise team in the Big 12 this season, is No. 13 in the Coaches Poll and No. 14 in the AP rankings.

The Sooners have a bye this week before returning to action on Nov. 13 at Baylor.
