With a huge come-from-behind win over archrival Texas on Saturday, Oklahoma football is one of the movers and shakers in the Week 7 national rankings after a topsy-turvy day of fantastic finishes in college football.

The Sooners (6-0, 3-0) moved up two spots in both the Associated Press Top 25 and the Coaches Poll this week following losses by previously top-ranked Alabama and No. 1 Penn State over the weekend. Georgia is the new No. 1 in both polls, moving up from No. 2.

The Cincinnati Bearcats, like OU undefeated through six games, also advanced two spots and sits above the Sooners at No. 3 in the AP poll, but immediately behind Oklahoma, at No. 5, in the Coaches Poll.

Iowa is the new No. 2 team in both polls, coming off a thrilling 23-20 home win over Penn State over the weekend. Alabama falls to No. 5 in both polls after being upset by Texas A&M.

Oklahoma State remained at No. 12 in both polls this week. The Cowboys (5-0, 2-0) were idle over the weekend.

Texas, on the losing end of Oklahoma’s remarkable come-from-behind win in the 2021 edition of the Red River Showdown, dropped four spots, to No. 19, in the AP poll, but fell out of the Coaches Poll Top 25. The Longhorns were No. 23 in the Coaches Poll last week.

The Sooners, one of 12 teams ranked in the top 25 this week that remain undefeated at the college season’s midway point, rank fourth in the ESPN Football Power Index, behind Georgia, Alabama and Ohio State. The FPI gives Oklahoma a 59 percent chance of making the College Football Playoff this season.
