Oklahoma football senior safety Pat Fields has been named a semifinalist for the 2021 William V. Campbell Trophy.

Fields is one of 176 semifinalists from around the country in consideration for the prestigious scholar-athlete award, which recognizes the college player who best represents a combination of academics, community service and on-field performance.

In his fourth year at Oklahoma, Fields has compiled a 3.82 GPA while pursing an undergraduate degree in business administration and a master’s degree in accounting. He was an Academic All-American second-team selection in 2020 and an Academic All-Big 12 first-team honoree in both 2019 and 2020.

In addition, Fields in 2020 received the Gerald Lage Academic Achievement Award, the highest academic honor awarded by the Big 12, and the University of Oklahoma Dan Gibbons Outstanding Scholar Athlete of the Year Award.

The Sooner senior safety is a two-time team captain and served for two years as one of two student-athletes nationally serving on the NCAA Division I Football Oversight and Competition Committee.

Fields is the founder of “Town Business,” a financial literacy seminar that teaches high school football student-athletes about budgeting, money management and personal branding.

Fields has started three years at safety for the Sooners and played in 34 games. Over that time, he has been credited with 146 tackles, 8.5 tackles for loss, 3.5 sacks, nine pass breakups and one interception. In the Nebraska game this season, he returned a blocked extra point 100 yards to score two points for Oklahoma.

The National Football Foundation, which oversees the William V. Campbell Trophy, is scheduled to announce the 12-14 finalists for this year’s award.

This is the 32nd year for the award, which was introduced in 1990. Only one Oklahoma student-athlete has every won the William V. Campbell Trophy: offensive lineman Ty Darlington in 2015.
