Oklahoma football recruiting was on a roll in July, picking up seven commitments, including two in the class of 2023.

On Friday, the Sooners added their first August commitment and third for 2023 when four-star tight end Luke Hasz from Bixby, Oklahoma, picked OU over offers from major programs like Ohio State, LSU, Texas and Oklahoma State.

Hasz announced his commitment via social media.

The 6-foot, 3-inch, 215-pound recruit is ranked 55th overall and the No. 2 tight end in the 2023 class in the 247Sports Player Composite. He is also the top-rated player in the state of Oklahoma in the 2023 recruiting cycle.

The addition of Hasz moves the Sooners to the top of the class in the Rivals 2023 team rankings, ahead of Florida, Georgia and Texas A&M. OU ranks second behind Georgia in the 247Sports 2023 team rankings.

The highly touted home-grown tight end joins five-star quarterback prospect Malachi Nelson, the No. 2-rated quarterback in the class, and four-star running back recruit Treyaun Webb out of Jacksonville, Florida.

“I had been thinking about committing for a week or so,” Hasz told the OUInsider for 247Sports. “Me and my family sat down at dinner to talk about it recently, and we decided OU was just too good of a fit.”

Hasz helped lead his high school team to the Oklahoma 6A II state championship game his 2020 sophomore season. He caught 32 passes for 702 yards and nine touchdowns.

Oklahoma’s 2022 class currently numbers 15 commitments and includes seven offensive players, seven on defense and one athlete. The 2022 class currently stands at No, 7 in the 247Sports rankings and No. 8, according to Rivals.
