Oklahoma football: Sooners add another D-lineman to 2022 class

The 2022 Oklahoma football recruiting class grew to 16 on Wednesday with a defensive line commitment.

Cedric Roberts, a three-star prospect from Pflugerville, Texas, a suburb of Austin, announced his commitment to the Sooners via social media on Wednesday. The 6-foot, 3-inch, 275-pound defensive tackle is the seventh defensive commitment for defensive coordinator Alex Grinch and head coach Lincoln Riley in the Sooners’ 2022 class.

Roberts is rated as the No. 96 defensive line prospect in the 2022 class, according to the 247Sports Composite Player Rankings.

Originally committed to Baylor, Roberts reopened his recruiting in late May. After decommitting from Baylor, he received five new offers, with three of those coming from Power Five schools. He visited Oklahoma earlier this week and obviously liked what he saw. The feeling was mutual and now he is soon to become an Oklahoma Sooner.

Roberts is a dual-sport athlete in high school in football and basketball. He was named a Texas District 11-5A honorable mention on the defensive line as a junior. His scouting report suggests he has a fast motor and pursuit of the ball.

Roberts joins four-star prospect Derrick Moore as the only defensive line commits in the Sooners 2022 class so far. The other defensive commitments are four-star linebackers Kobie McKinzie, Kip Lewis and Demetrius Hunter, and cornerback Jayden Rowe and safety Robert Spears-Jennings.

Oklahoma’s 2022 recruiting class is currently ranked No. 6 nationally by 247Sports and No. 7 by Rivals.

Roberts is the eighth recruit to commit to OU’s 2022 class in the month of July, doubling the size of the class in the last 30 days.
