The 2022 recruiting class grew to 13 on Wednesday with a fourth July commitment.

Four-star offensive lineman Jake Taylor, from Las Vegas, is the fifth recruit to commit to the Sooners since July 3.

Taylor, who will be a senior this fall at Bishop Gorman High School. the same high school that former OU and NFL star and now Sooner running backs coach DeMarco Murray attended, was one of the 20-plus major recruiting targets that was in attendance several weeks ago at the Oklahoma ChampU BBQ event.

The Las Vegas native is the third offensive line commitment brought in by offensive line coach Bill Bedenbaugh as part of the Sooners’ 2022 class. Taylor joins fellow four-star offensive line prospect Jacob Sexton out of Oklahoma City, and three-star offensive lineman Demetrius Hunter from Orange, Texas.

Listed at 6-feet, 6 inches and 290 pounds, Taylor is rated as the No. 27 offensive tackle in the 247Sports Player Composite.

Oklahoma extended a scholarship offer to Taylor in March of 2020. In February, he announced that his decision was down to Oklahoma, Alabama and Notre Dame. It appears that the ChampU BBQ must have sealed the deal for him.

With the recent commitments, the 2022 Oklahoma recruiting class is now up to No. 4 in the 247Sports Class Rankings and No. 5 in the Rivals 2022 Team Rankings.

This month alone, besides Taylor, Sexton and Hunter, the Sooners have added 2022 commitments from four-star defensive end Derrick Moore and three-star athlete Xavion Brice.

Several more announcement are expected to follow this month, including one on July 18 from five-star 2023 quarterback Malachi Nelson out of Southern California.
