Over a 48-hour period  this weekend, the Oklahoma football 2022 recruiting class went from eight commitments to an even dozen.

Three of those commitments were announced on the July 4th, which for the second year in a row has been a big day for Sooner football recruiting.

The commitment announcement by 4-star offensive lineman Jacob Sexton on July 3 was followed by a trifecta of OU additions to the 2022 recruiting class one day later.

The 4th of July holiday began with a bang with commitment announcements by Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, three-star wide receiver Robert Spears-Jennings, and that was closely followed by the announcement that three-star athlete Xavion Brice had committed to the Sooners as the 11th member of the OU 2022 class.

The big catch came later in the day with the word that four-star defensive end Derrick Moore had selected over his two other serious considerations: Ohio State and Penn State.

Moore is from the Baltimore, Maryland, area and is the seventh player from the mid-Atlantic area on the East Coast who has pledged to play football for Oklahoma. Another notable former Sooner from Baltimore was All-American offensive tackle Orlando Brown, Jr., who now in the NFL with the Kansas City Chiefs.

Moore is the fifth defensive commitment in OU’s 2022 class but the first defensive lineman.

The 6-foot, 4-inch, 245-pound defensive line prospect is ranked as the No. 12 strongside defensive end and the No. 75 player overall in the 2022 class, according to the 247Sports Player Composite.

This could be a big recruiting month for Oklahoma as several more commitment announcements are anticipated later this month.
