One of the big recruiting announcements the Oklahoma football program was expecting in July came through on Saturday.

Four-star offensive lineman Jacob Sexton declared his commitment to play for the Sooners.

The 2022 prospect from Deer Creek High School in nearby Edmond, Oklahoma, selected to stay at home over offers from Alabama, Oklahoma State, Texas A&M, Texas among others.

Of the nine current commitments Oklahoma has in its 2022 recruiting class, Sexton is the second of two Oklahoma players to be part of that class. He joins defensive back Jaydon Rowe from Tulsa.

Sooner state native Talyn Shettron, a four-star wide-receiver prospect, was previously committed to OU, but decommitted last week to be able to play with his brother at Oklahoma State.

Listed a 6-feet, 5 inches and 285 pounds, Sexton is the second offensive lineman in the Sooners nine-member 2019 class. OU offensive line coach Bill Bedenbaugh, recognized as one of the best in the country, has also received a 2022 commitment from Demetrius Hunter, another four-star O-line prospect, according to Rivals.

Sexton was one of high-level recruiting targets who was in attendance at Oklahoma’s recent ChampU BBQ event. Rivals rates Sexton as the No, 27 offensive lineman in the class and No. 227 overall.

Sexton is one of several top targets the Sooners are hopeful of landing commitments from this month. Malachi Nelson, the No, 2 quarterback in the 2023 class (behind Arch Manning), is expected to make his decision on July 18.

Two others who OU is heavily interested in and are expected to announce in July are 6-foot, 5-inch tight end prospect Kaden Helms from Bellevue, Nebraska, and wide receiver Robert Spears-Jennings, another prospect out of the state of Oklahoma (Broken Arrow).
