When it rains, it sometimes pours, and that is the case of Oklahoma football recruiting as the Sooners have added their second 2022 commitment in as many days.

And for the second day in a row, the OU commitment is from the state of Oklahoma. Three-star wide receiver/defensive back Robert Spears-Jennings from Broken Arrow committed to Oklahoma on Sunday.

Spears-Jennings followed the commitment of Edmond, Oklahoma, four-star offensive lineman Jacob Sexton, who announced on Saturday his decision to stay home and play for the Sooners.

Spear-Jennings was offered by Oklahoma just a month ago and was being heavily pursued by Texas Tech, initially as a wide receiver but more recently as a defensive back. He also had offers from Arkansas, Ole Miss, Colorado, Michigan State and others.

Some concern was elevated among the Sooner staff when it was learned that Spears-Jennings high school teammate, Maurion Horn, a four-star running back prospect had committed to the Red Raiders.

Most of the schools that had extended a scholarship offer to Spears-Jennings were looking at him as a wide receiver. Oklahoma and defensive coordinator Alex Grinch want to make him a defensive back, although there is some speculation that this could change after the decommitment of fellow Oklahoman Talyn Shettron, a four-star wide receiver from Edmond, who reversed course after his brother, Tabry, a tight end prospect, accepted an offer from Oklahoma State.

It is a good bet there are going to be several other recruiting announcements coming before the end of this month. And that should elevate Oklahoma’s current No. 8 ranking in the Rivals 2022 Class Rankings.
