Oklahoma football: Six Sooners on CFN Preseason All-Big 12 Team
By Chip Rouse
In case you haven’t noticed, we are in the season when all of the national media outlets are putting out their preseason all-conference selections, and Oklahoma football players are getting a lot of attention.
College Football News is the latest to join the parade, singling out six Sooners on its 2021 Preseason All-Big 12 Team.
It’s probably not much of a surprise that Oklahoma and Iowa State dominate the All-Big 12 preseason selections, given that they are projected as the two best teams heading into the 2021 season. The two schools combined to place 11 of the 26 players on CFN’s All-Big 12 Team.
OU and Iowa State also split the Offensive and Defensive Player of the Year selections. Oklahoma redshirt-sophomore quarterback Spencer Rattler was named Big 12 Offensive Player of the Year, and Iowa State linebacker Mike Rose was Defensive Player of the Year.
The six Oklahoma players on the All Big 12 Team — three on offense, two on defense and one on special teams — are Rattler, sophomore wide receiver Marvin Mims, junior offensive tackle Wanya Morris (who transferred to OU this offseason from Tennessee), junior linebacker Nik Bonitto, senior defensive tackle Isaiah Thomas and junior kicker Gabe Brkic.
