Just as things are starting to heat up in Oklahoma football recruiting along with the lessoning of COVID restrictions and the rising Summer temperatures and humidity, the Sooners have lost a top commitment from their 2022 class.

Multiple news sources are reporting on Monday that four-star wide receiver Jordan Hudson has decommitted and will reopen his recruitment.

Hudson, who is from Garland, Texas, has been committed to the Sooners since July 21, 2020. He had been committed the second longest of head coach Lincoln Riley’s No. 7-ranked 2022 class, according to Rivals.

The Sooners have two other wide-receivers commitments in the 2022 class: Luther Burden, a five-star prospect out of St. Louis, Missouri, and Taylon Shettron, from nearby Edmond, Oklahoma.

Hudson is rated the No. 14 overall receiver in the 2022 class, according to the 247Sports Composite and No. 24 by Rivals. He caught 48 passes for 808 yards and 10 touchdowns his junior season for Garland High School.

This is the first decommitment in Oklahoma’s 2022 recruiting class. There have also been rumors, however, than Burden is also considering back away from his pledge to the Sooners in favor of offers from Missouri or Alabama.

The Sooners are hosting their annual ChampU BQ weekend, one of OU largest recruiting events of the year, later this week. A number of top Sooners targets for 2022 are expected to attend the event, including a top running back target, Gavin Sawchuck, and four-star CB Gentry Williams. Riley has his staff have been recruiting both prospects extremely hard. Several of the current commits will also be in attendance.
