No, it’s not Groundhog Day, but Oklahoma softball is again facing Oklahoma State in a Big 12 Conference championship game, just one week removed.

Last Sunday, these same two teams, Nos. 1 and 2 in the league standings this season and both top 10-ranked nationally, faced off in Stillwater in what turned out to be the deciding game for the regular-season championship crown on the final weekend of the regular season.

The top-ranked Sooners won that game 11-8, but it was far from easy. In so doing OU captured its ninth consecutive Big 12 regular-season championship and 12th overall in the Big 12 era.

No. 1 Oklahoma and No. 7 Oklahoma State will meet again with a Big 12 championship on the line at 3 p.m. CT Saturday at the USA Softball Hall of Fame Complex in Oklahoma State. The game will be televised live on ESPN2.

Unlike a week ago, when the Cowgirls had the home-field advantage in Stillwater, this weekend the game is being played in OU’s backyard. Although the crowd split should be heavily skewed toward the Sooners, you can expect there will be plenty of OSU fans in attendance for 2021 Bedlam softball round four.

Oklahoma’s road to the Big 12 Tournament championship game included wins over fourth-seeded Baylor and sixth-seeded Texas Tech on Friday. OU defeated Baylor 10-2 in game one and followed that win with an 8-2 victory in game two.

The Sooners added to their nation-best, home-run total, blasting nine round-trippers  between the two games, including a pair by sophomore Kinzie Hansen in both games. Oklahoma has now hit 129 home runs this season, 14 better than the previous program record.

Oklahoma State advanced to Saturday’s championship with a pair of one-run wins over No. 3 seed Texas and No. 5 Iowa State. The Cowgirls won 4-3 over Texas and 6-5 against Iowa State.

Patty Gasso’s Sooners will be seeking their fourth consecutive Big 12 championship sweep (winning the regular-season title and the tournament championship in the same season) and seventh Big 12 Tournament championship overall.
